Celebrity Worship or Celebrity Harassment? Sometimes fans cross the line between celebrity worship and unhealthy preoccupation with a celebrity or other public figure. The most recent case would be that of Celina Jaitley ------------------------------------------------------ who was mobbed by fans when she performed at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurgaon. Her act send the audience into a frenzy and the security personnel had to bring the mob under control. She was also subjected to loud abuses in Hindi coming out of the Pakistani players' enclosure. The actress recounting her experience said that "The crowd went ballistic." Anything could have happened. The car in which I was leaving was surrounded and smashed." Other actresses who had to face unwelcomed attention: ---------------------------------------------------------- Koena Mitra caught the eye of a six-foot stalker who cornered the actress for a picture prior to the New Year Eve's show. But before the camera could go click, click, he asked the actress if he could hold her close and was shooed away by the security. He showed up again and insisted on shaking her hand. Crushing it, he than grabbed her wrist and tried to pull her towards him. A spirited Mitra rained blows on him even as the security came rushing to her rescue again. Mitra had earlier been accosted at another New Year performance at Hotel JW Marriott. A stranger manhandled her in front of the media covering the event. Koena Mitra's best buddy Tanushree Dutta herself was at the receiving end of unwanted attention in Bangalore on January 1 this year soon after the Sahara Star performance. A man tried to act fresh with her.. she slapped him. Another Bengali beauty, Bipasha Basu was apparently harassed in the car when she was being escorted to the India Day Parade at Edison Township in New Jersey on August 13, 2006.Basu who was the Grand Marshal, did not join the parade but showed up on stage and tried to convey what had happened. She was hushed up by the organisers who later blamed her for turning up late. The actress did not file a criminal complaint and later denied harassment but complained of disorganisation. Rakhi Sawant has had to contend with such uncouth behaviour on her shows. But the incident that made headlines happened at Mika's birthday bash at Cinderella hour. In full view of the gathered TV channels, the singer swooped down on Sawant and smooched her. Raveena Tandon and Shilpa Shetty complained of harassment when they were detained by the immigration authorities at the Mumbai airport. This increase in celebrity harassment cases is alarming. Celebrity worship is turing into an unhealthy preoccupation. ================
